Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is implemented using a case management approach. The goal of our program is to provide education, exercise training, and counseling to help patients reach their maximum levels of wellness.
Phase I begins in the hospital with exercise training and education on risk factors.
Phase II is initiated after release from the hospital on an outpatient basis. It is offered on the first floor of the Medical Office Bldg next to Doctors Hospital. This phase usually lasts approximately six to twelve weeks and consists of three exercise sessions a week with individual education and counseling at each session. Education classes are offered covering stress management, nutrition, exercise, weight management, diabetes management, smoking cessation and medication review.
Phase III is also offered on the first floor of the Medical Office building next to Doctors Hospital. It is considered a wellness program through which exercise training continues to develop lifetime fitness habits. Education and counseling are offered in the areas in which the patient exhibits an ongoing need.
Phases II, III are not limited to patients beginning Phase I in the hospital. Patients benefit from cardiopulmonary rehabilitation if they have heart and lung disease, such as angina, heart failure, a heart attack, balloon angioplasty, open heart surgery, heart transplant, pacemaker or internal defibrillator recipients, chronic bronchitis, asthma or emphysema. Patients with risk factors for cardiopulmonary disease, such as diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol and stress, can be evaluated for lifestyle modification to promote wellness.
